Location

The cross streets are Burlington and Clinton Streets, and there is parking available in a garage directly across the street from Voxman, or on the street.

Driving

The University of Iowa is located in Iowa City, Iowa. Iowa City is a 3.5-hour drive to Chicago (downtown), 3.5-hour drive to Omaha, a 4-hour drive to St. Louis, and 4.5-hour drive to Minneapolis-St. Paul and Kansas City.

Train

The closest Amtrak stop to Iowa City is Mount Pleasant, Iowa (MTP) once per day, departing Chicago (CHI) at 2pm and arriving MTP at 6:06pm. The MTP station is 50 miles from Iowa City, and a shuttle will be available for a fee.

Bus

The Iowa City bus station (Greyhound, Trailways) is one block from the Voxman Music Building, behind the Hilton Garden Inn.

Air travel

The nearest airport to Iowa City is Cedar Rapids/Eastern Iowa Airport (CID), which is approximately 25-30 minutes’ drive from the Voxman Music Building. CID is serviced by Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Delta, Frontier, and United Airlines, and has direct flights from CLT, ORD, DFW, DEN, LAS, MSP, ATL, PHX, LAX, BNA, and several airports in Florida.

Moline/Quad City airport (MLI) is about an hour away. MLI is serviced by Allegiant, American, Delta, and United, and has direct flights from LAS, DEN, IWA, ATL, DFW, and several airports in Florida.

Des Moines (DSM) airport is a two-hour drive. DSM is serviced by Allegiant, American, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, and United Airlines, and has direct flights from ATL, AUS, CLT, ORD, DFW, DEN, VPS, DTW, FLL, HOU, IAH, LAS, LAX, MIA, MSP, BNA, LGA, EWR, SNA, MCO, SFB, PSP, AZA, PHX, PDX, PGD, SAN, SRQ, STL, DCA.

Chicago O’Hare (ORD) is a 3.5-hour drive and is a major international hub.

Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) is a 4.5-hour drive and is a major international hub.

Shuttles will be available from CID, and the MTP Amtrak station, for a fee.

Where to Stay

As the university will be on Spring Break, Vrbo and Airbnb may provide good deals on student apartments which are vacant for the weekend and close to the Voxman Music Building.

There are six hotels within 2 1⁄2 blocks of the music building. They all sit in the $100+/night range. Blocks of rooms are reserved at The Graduate Hotel and the Hyatt Place Downtown Iowa City. Details on how to reserve rooms will be available in January.

Where to eat

On opposite corners from Voxman there are both a Starbucks and a café with full food service (Encounter Café), and there is a formal, upscale rooftop restaurant at the Hilton Garden Inn (Vue.) There is a small indoor shopping mall half a block down Clinton Street, with a food court that includes Chipotle, Noodles & Co., Freddy’s Burgers and Custard, Buffalo Wild Wings, Vietnamese takeout, Korean takeout, Chinese takeout, and Indian sit down or takeout restaurants. Across Clinton Street from the indoor shopping mall there is a pedestrian mall with many food options ranging from inexpensive fast food like Jimmy John’s, to expensive upscale restaurants like the Iowa Chop House.
